Evans Mortuary is a family-owned and operated funeral home located in Rockwood, Tennessee. We have served many families in and around Roane County for over 30 years. Our commitment is to provide caring, professional, quality service and assistance in funeral planning to those families we serve. It has been our tradition to offer our best in comfort, competent and caring service to each family during the loss of a loved one.
Evans Mortuary was established in 1976 by Thomas R. “Butch” Evans, Jr. Prior to opening his business, he worked for Booth Funeral Home in Rockwood. While there, he developed an interest in the funeral industry and went on to attend John A. Gupton College in Nashville and graduated in 1970. Later, he purchased the property on Gateway Avenue, built a small facility and opened his own business in November 1976. Some additional duties he had were serving as county coroner from 1974 to 1978 and providing a convalescent ambulance service until 1983. Over the years, Evans Mortuary has earned the trust of the community in meeting families’ needs during times of grief.
In December of 2020, Thomas R. “Butch” Evans Jr. passed the business to his son, Thomas Aylor Evans after the unexpected passing of his wife and co-owner, Hyda R. Evans earlier in the year. Aylor grew up around the funeral industry his whole life. He was a 2012 Graduate of Rockwood High School, 2013 graduate of Roane State Community College, 2015 Graduate of Tennessee Technological University, and John A. Gupton College Graduate in 2017. He looks to carry on the very same traditions and standard of excellence and professionalism instilled by his father in the funeral industry for many years to come.
