On Thursday, March 12th, 2020, Rev. Carl Lee Armes, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather completed his journey at the age of 89 years at the Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN following several weeks of illness. He was surrounded by family and caring staff members. He was born on April 16, 1930, to Jefferson Davis and Osa Anna (Bunch) Armes. In the mountains near Petros, TN. His father was a coal miner and his mother was a homemaker. He met and married Christine Gilliam on June 21, 1952. He sold her a Singer sewing machine and won her heart. Their union was blessed with four children. Donna Lynn Weatherington (Warren) in Milton Iowa, Dennis Ray Armes (Dec) Danny Lee Armes (Kathy) and David Ray Armes (Ginger) of Rockwood, TN. During most of his working career, he was a surveying engineer for the State and other companies. He was also a Baptist Minister and was minister at the Cardiff Baptist Church and Pine Ridge Baptist Churches for several years. He filled in as pastor for many other Baptist ministers for illness, vacations and whatever the case may be. He held steadfast in his faith and always committed to his congregation. He was still giving and learning God’s word into his eighties. I will always remember his final words to me (his daughter). “Keep your eye on the goal and your hand in God’s”.He loved steam locomotives and spent many hours at the museum in Chattanooga, TN. He always took great pleasure in taking his children, grandkids, and great grandkids to ride the trains. As a boy, they were a part of his everyday life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur Armes and Earl Armes, and one son Dennis Ray Armes, a police officer killed in the line of duty. He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Christine Armes, 3 children, Donna Lynn Weatherington (Warren) in Milton Iowa, Danny Lee Armes (Kathy) and David Ray Armes (Ginger) of Rockwood, TN. Five grandchildren, Jeffery Armes, Christina Armes Zerod (Mark), Aradonna Armes Wilson, Bruce Armes (Holly) and Aleisha Armes Brown (James) along with 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as numerous friends that have been touched by his service to God. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 16th at Child’s Memorial Baptist Church in Harriman, TN from 5-7p.m. with family present. Funeral will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Randy Roper, Rev. Michael Hammonds, Rev. Mason Goodman, and Rev. Tim Shelton officiating. Interment will be Tuesday, March 17th at 12:00 p.m. in Roane Memorial Gardens in Rockwood, TN with Rev. Frank Kirby officiating. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Rev. Carl Lee Armes.
