Mertie Elizabeth Givens

Mrs. Mertie Elizabeth Givens, age 89 of Rockwood, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2024. She was born on September 9, 1935. Mertie retired from Burlington Industries after working there for over 53 years. She loved her family, music and dancing. In the later part of her life, she took very good care of her baby dolls. She had many of them and they never left her side in the nursing home. She is preceded in death by her parents: Perry Green & Ora Carter Green; daughter: Darlene Neal; grandson: Keith Sutton; and a host of siblings. She is survived by:

Children: Selma Givens Capps (Sam), Wilma Givens Neal (Jerry)

Grandchildren: Shane Sutton, Greg Capps (Leanne), Samantha Capps, Jody Cagley (Amber), Wade Cagley (Kim), Misty Neal (Andrew), and Michelle Hamby

several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren

Sister: Wanda Smith

and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. 

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm ET at Evans Mortuary. Graveside and interment service will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Mrs. Mertie Elizabeth Givens.
