William Thomas Vann (Bill, “T”)
William T. Vann (Bill, “T”), 86, died Saturday, March 21, 2015. A native of South Harriman, Tennessee, he had been a resident of Hampton, Virginia for the last 50 years where he worked for the Newport News Shipyard retiring after 27 years of service. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge. He was an avid fan of the University of Tennessee football, the Washington Redskins and rarely missed watching the Sunday NASCAR race. He loved to bass fish and was an exceptional deer hunter. He frequently won the best hunter trophy from his hunt club in Gloucester, Virginia for tagging the most deer in the season.
He had an outgoing personality and loved to be with friends and family. He was quick with a joke, loved to laugh and enjoyed life. He enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each year and spending time with his dogs.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years MaeBell Kelley Vann, parents Jasper (Bud) and Lolita Vann, granddaughter Joy Marie Vann, brothers Red Vann and Roger Vann and sister Dot Borum.
Survivors include brother David Vann and his wife Judy of Kingston TN, sister Evelyn Caldwell of Nashville, TN; sons Thomas Randy Vann his wife Nina of Hampton; and W. Wade Vann and his wife Debbie of Roswell, GA; daughter Teresa Sheets and husband Willie of Hampton VA. He was also loved dearly by his grandchildren Mike Vann and wife Holly of Roswell, GA; Ryan Vann and wife Jennifer of Marietta, GA; Brianna Culver and her husband Ray of Coral Springs FL; Travis Vann, Cody Sheets, and Marisa Sheets of Hampton VA; and three great grandchildren, April Culver, Noah and Esther Vann.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff at Commonwealth Assisted living Alzheimer’s unit for love and patience they provided to our father during the past 7 years.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Evans Mortuary, Rockwood, TN. The service will follow at 2pm in the Chapel with the Rev. Charles Kelley officating. The interment will be at Roane Memorial Gardens, in Rockwood, TN. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of William Thomas Vann (Bill, “T”)
