Roger Wayne Moree, age 67 passed away on 12/17/2016. He was a member of the Rockwood Tennessee High School Class of 1967. Upon entering the United States Marine Corps in 1968 he served for 12 months and 20 days in Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division in the Northern I Corp. He fought in many battles and among his many awards, he was honored with the silver star for heroism, 2 bronze stars for heroism, 3 purple Hearts for wounded in combat, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy and Marine Achievement Medal with Combat V for valor, Navy and Marine Commendation Medal with Combat V for valor, Vietnam Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign, Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Joint Task Force (NATO) Combat Air Assault, Armed Forces Expeditionary Service, U.S. Navy Expeditions Medal (USSOUTHCOM), 3 Battle E’s for excellence (United States Atlantic Fleet). The United States Department of Defense Superior Service Medal. He attended Roane State Community College, TN Tech University, GA State University, American University, Old Dominion University, MI State University where he earned an A.A., B.S., B.A., M.A. He also attended many military schools. Among them was the US Naval War College in Newport, RI. Participating in Graduate-Level National Security and Strategic Studies. He spent 23 years of Military Service on active duty between the USMC and the US Navy while serving and living on four Continents, Southeast Asia (USMC), NATO H.Q. (Europe), Pentagon (Washington, D.C.,) United States Southern Command (South American.) His life was broad and spanned the entire world. He was truly a citizen of the World. Upon his request his ashes will be released to the Winds of Maritime while crossing the International Date Line onboard a United States Naval Ship. Being an avid sailboat enthusiast, he was very much at home while sailing on the oceans of the world. May your sky’s be blue and seas calm as you sail into the sunset.
