Rev. Ray Poland, age 85, a resident of Harriman (Midtown), Tennessee passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born September 27, 1931 in Harriman, Tennessee. Rev. Poland was a member of the Community Baptist Church in Rockwood, Tennessee. Mr. Poland was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, he became a Certified Barber 1956-1962. He then went to work for the Roane Electric Furnace in Rockwood where he was employed for over 25 years. Rev. Poland was ordained into the Ministry of the Gospel on June 21, 1970 and had Pastored the Grievers Chapel Baptist Church, Mountain View Baptist Church, and Grace Baptist Church, all of Rockwood; the Emory Heights Baptist Church of Harriman; and the Community Baptist Church of Rockwood. He loved spending time with his family; was a Devoted Husband and Father; and loved the Lord. Only 2 weeks ago, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Loretta Poland. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Dave Poland and Fannie Alice Ferguson Poland; sister, Ruthy Poland; brothers, Johnny Poland, Luke Poland, Frank Poland, and David Poland; and sisters, Hazel Underwood and Wilma Britt.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 7, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary with Rev. Wayne Mullins and Rev. Larry S. Tilley officiating. Family and friends will meet on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Harriman (Midtown), Tennessee for graveside services and interment with full military honors by the Roane County Military Memorial Honor Guard and the U.S. Air Force.
