Ola Fay Willis, better known as “Granny,” left her earthly life on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at home in Rockwood Tennessee. Born on June 5, 1934, she was only a few days of reaching her 82nd birthday. A single-minded woman of strong will, she kept on surviving against all medical predictions.
She was predeceased by her mother, Ava Lee Brown; Father James Arthur Brown, daughter Karen Abston and grandson Cory Abston.
She is survived by her sons, James Brown and wife Debra of Oak Ridge; James Willis and wife Dean of Rockwood; Jackie Brown and wife Robin of Harriman; and daughter Anna Fay Woodall and husband Woody of Rockwood.
She is also survived by her sisters Carline Gibson with husband Don, of Cleveland Tennessee, and Betty Harris of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.
Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Granny was a member of New Vision Word of Faith Church in Rockwood, Tennessee, and a member of that church’s singing group, “The Highway to Heaven.” She was very proud to have sons who enjoyed singing gospel songs with her, with two of them also ordained preachers. She could talk at length about her two beautiful daughters and how they looked just like her. She felt blessed with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and felt lucky to see each grow.
Church was a major part of her life, and her great enthusiasm, and was quick to tell everyone about Jesus. She loved being surrounded by her family, church family and friends. She enjoyed a variety of activities, including going to the mountains, playing with her puppies, collecting dolls and ceramic angels, and she had a special fondness for tacos. She earned the nickname “The Energizer Bunny,” because she was always on the move.
Special thanks go to daughter-in-law Dean Willis, niece Crystal Chambers and friend Kim Tuggle for their unfailing attention and help given to Granny as she needed extra care during her declining years.
