Mr. Virgil Rayder, age 86, a resident of Rockwood, Tennessee passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 in the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, Tennessee. He was born February 27, 1929 in Rockwood, Tennessee to William Clarence Rayder and Arizona Butler Rayder. Mr. Rayder was a member and Deacon of the Eureka Baptist Church in Rockwood. He was a member and Past Master of Rockwood Masonic Lodge # 403 F. & A.M.; a former member of Scottish Rite and Alhambra Shrine Temple and was a Shriner Clown. He was a retired Shift Engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority with 28 years of service. Mr. Rayder was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a big supporter of the Smokerise Memorial Park, St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital and East Tennessee Childrens Hospital; and was formerly active with Rockwood 2000. He enjoyed woodworking and created many special gifts, toys, and, items for the church. He was also the creator and engineer of the “Jenny Lee Special”, a kiddy train that was used to entertain generations of people at many local functions. He also assisted in the children’s drop off in the mornings at Ridge View Elementary School in Rockwood for several years, made items for the classroom, and was recognized by the school as the “Grandest Grandparent”. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Lee Rayder; great grandson, Kaleb Stooksbury; and sister, Jewel Cates.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 2, 2015 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at the Evans Mortuary. Masonic Memorial services will follow on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow with Rev. Mike Winters and Rev. Travis Langley officiating. Committal services and interment will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11:00a.m. in the Roane Memorial Gardens with military honors by U.S. Navy.
