Robert “Bob” Elwood Kirchner
Bob Kirchner, 79, of Spring City, Tenn. passed away Wednesday, January 25, at his home with his wife, Sandy and their four daughters by his side.
Bob was born on February 8, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio to Christine “Dolly” Webber Kirchner and Elwood Kirchner. He grew up on a farm in Pleasant Hill, Ohio with his parents and four sisters. At 18, he joined the U.S. Navy where he was a parachute rigger.
After returning home, he met his wife, Sandy, both working at Wright Patterson Air Force where he was a liquid oxygen plant operator. They married on December 10, 1960. He eventually went to work with his father-in-law, Del Marshall, in a family-owned car dealership.
He and Sandy relocated their family in 1973 to Spring City, Tenn. Bob worked at a salesman in Harriman for many years before opening a B and D Motors with Del on their friend, Charlie Moore’s, property. Later, they moved the business to Wolf Creek under the name of Rhea County Motors where he had the pleasure working with the late Jimmy Holland and made many friends in his hometown. He also was proud to assist Margaret Bott to bring adult education to Spring City. After retiring, he drove a Rhea County school bus where he loved each and every child he met.
He adored his wife, Sandy and loved their four daughters, Shelly, Stacy, Jennifer, Amanda, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed watching all the children playing sports, dancing and other activities. He loved people and making them laugh.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Beth Kirchner; sisters Joan Laing, Betty Iddings, and Carol Henson.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy, of 56 years; daughters Shelly Kirchner, Stacy Spurlin(Dale Morris), Jennifer (Greg) Siever and Amanda (Mart) Shelton; sister Connie Stockslager. Grandchildren Sydney (Marshall) Edwards, Robert Logan Spurlin, Madison Siever, Cole Siever and Amelia Shelton. Great grandchildren Morgan, Braden, Gauge and Brody.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Spring City United Methodist Church with visitation from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and his service to begin at 2 p.m. with retired Pastor Don Allison officiating. Interment services will be held at a later date for his immediate family. In lieu of flowers, please share a smile and a random act of kindness in memory of Bob.
