Mr. Arthur Ray Simmon, age 78, a resident of Rockwood, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at his residence. He was born January 6, 1938 in Clinton, Iowa. Ray was a member of the Disciples of Christ Church and was a True American Patriot who always wanted to leave something behind to help other Americans. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving the U.S. Navy SEALs Team Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) and then with the Navy Seabees, who are the combat engineers of the U.S. Navy. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries received during acts of heroism. Ray also was an incredible Civil Engineer who enjoyed a 48 year career span. He built 28 hospitals, specializing in Nuclear Medicine, building hospitals for cancer patients, a contribution for which he was very proud. He also overseen the construction of several Federal Prisons, and other Local and State Government buildings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville Woodrow Simmon and Jessie Rhea Crabill Simmon.
