Michael Ray “Mike” Richards, 71, of Rockwood, TN passed away peacefully at his home on Watts Bar Lake on July, 26, 2016. Born in Knoxville, TN and raised in Oak Ridge, TN, Mike was an Oak Ridge High School graduate of the class of 1963. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran as part of the 101st Airborne division of the U.S. Army. Living in Greeneville, TN he was General Manager of Interstate Vending and later owner of the Boat House and co-owner of Roane County Motors in Rockwood, TN. He was co-host of Sports around Roane, host of Channel 12 Outdoors and an active part of the Rockwood Sports Program. He enjoyed his time as broadcaster for the Rockwood Football and Basketball games. He was an avid sportsman, fisherman, golfer, music lover and dancer. He was also quite known for his d.j. and m.c. sessions at the Wildcat Den and ORHS reunions. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lorine Richards and sister, Anna Lou Richards. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Anne Richards; their children, Rod and LeeAnn Richards; son-in-law, Ricardo de Abiega; grandchildren, Addison Richards, Carolina de Abiega, Begona de Abiega; and brother, Paul Richards. He is also survived by much loved brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and all the many dear close friends in his life.
Arrangements are as Follows: A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Rockwood United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 4pm and officiated by the Reverend and Dear Friend, Larry Moore. A private family Memorial and Interment service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mike would really appreciate a winning season for the Vols.
